FAQs about R10
General
What is R10?
R10 is a compact drone designed for indoor and confined-space operations. It includes obstacle avoidance, onboard lighting, two-way audio, and livestreaming, and it integrates directly into the Skydio ecosystem.
What makes it different from other drones I could use indoors?
R10 is designed for ease of use by non-expert operators while providing features such as autonomy, obstacle avoidance, live streaming to any browser, automatic media upload over a network, onboard cellular for limitless range and secure data handling — capabilities that are often missing from small indoor drones.
Does it work in the dark?
Yes. R10 includes onboard LEDs and uses Skydio NightSense, enabling flight in dark or low-light environments.
What frame rates does R10 support?
R10 records video at 30 frames per second under normal conditions, and also supports 24 frames per second in night mode for improved low-light performance.
Does it have audio capabilities?
Yes. R10 has a built-in speaker and microphone for two-way communication. The speaker outputs at 82 dB for clear communication in Perch Mode. The microphone can be used while R10 is in Perch Mode.
Platform specs
How big is it?
R10 measures 10.4” x 10.3” x 2.4”.
What is the weight?
Weight, including battery: 1.73 lbs (785 g).
How long can R10 fly?
Up to 20 minutes per battery, depending on lighting and maneuvering.
What is “Perch Mode”?
Perch Mode lets R10 land in position and continue monitoring with its camera and audio for up to 3 hours.
What happens if it tips over?
R10 has Turtle Mode, which allows it to flip itself upright and continue flying.
Can it fly without GPS?
Yes. R10 uses vision-based navigation to fly indoors or in GPS-denied areas.
How safe is it to fly near people?
R10 is lightweight, has enclosed propellers, and includes obstacle avoidance, reducing risk when flown in confined spaces.
What are the environmental tolerances?
Operating temperature range: -20°C to +50°C (-4°F to 122°F). R10 can handle wind gusts up to 10 m/s (22 mph).
Can it record high-quality video and photos?
Yes. R10 is equipped with a large 1-inch CMOS sensor that captures 12.5MP photos and 4K video with electronic image stabilization. This setup delivers sharp, detailed imagery even in challenging low-light conditions, making it well-suited for both evidence capture and situational awareness.
Security and compliance
How is my data protected?
All telemetry and media are encrypted during capture, upload, and storage. Skydio Cloud products meet CJIS security standards.
Is R10 NDAA compliant?
Yes.
Does R10 support Remote ID?
R10 supports Remote ID.
Software and integrations
How does media handling work?
All media is automatically uploaded to Skydio Cloud (DFR Command or Remote Ops), where it can be exported or synced directly into media storage systems. This includes digital evidence management systems such as Axon Evidence. R10 does have an SD card for manual transfers should that ever be required.
Does R10 integrate with the Skydio system I already use?
Yes. R10 uses the same controllers and DFR Command or Remote Ops for remote operation, fleet management and media management as X10 and Dock.
Connectivity and remote operations
Can I share livestreams from R10?
Yes. R10 can share live video feeds via ReadyLink, DFR Command, Remote Ops, and integrations like Fusus.
Can I fly R10 remotely?
Yes. R10 can be launched by a local operator and quickly handed off to a remote pilot.
What connectivity options does R10 support?
R10 supports Connect SL, Skydio’s proprietary point-to-point network from the controller, and onboard cellular. R10 has two SIM card slots so that you can have two cellular network options. Cellular data plans can be purchased through Skydio - Connect 5G - or you can bring your own plans.
R10 supports Connect Fusion, which provides continuous, high-quality video fusing cellular with Connect SL so they can adapt to your moment-to-moment needs. This allows you to maximize throughput or use one network for uplink and another for downlink. Automatically.
Operational use
How much training does it require?
Minimal. Most operators can fly confidently with basic familiarization.
How is it carried and deployed?
R10 fits in a small hard case or bag. It can be stored in a patrol car or carried by an inspector into the field.
How quickly can R10 be deployed?
From case to airborne in about 30 seconds.
Where does it fit in patrol or inspection workflows?
R10 is intended to provide visibility inside a structure or confined space before people enter. Patrol officers can use it to clear a structure safely. Inspectors can use it to access hard-to-reach spaces without scaffolding or shutdowns.
Can it be used outdoors?
R10 is designed for indoor and very close-range outdoor operations. It is not intended for use in windy or wet environments.
How does it handle highly confined spaces?
R10 is designed to operate confidently in confined environments. Its compact size, protective propeller guards, and advanced obstacle avoidance allow it to navigate safely where space is limited, while onboard lighting and NightSense autonomy ensure reliable performance even in low-light conditions.
What happens if I crash it?
R10 has strong propeller guards and a low-cost repair model to enable quick recovery from collisions.
What types of incidents can R10 support?
R10 is designed for missions where officers or inspectors need fast visibility inside a structure or confined space before entering. Common examples include responding to burglary alarms at homes or businesses, clearing multi-room indoor areas, assessing high-risk vehicle stops, and gaining situational awareness during emergencies in residential or workplace settings.
Buying and support
What comes in the kit?
